Gin dressed up in cherry, pineapple, and spice; the rosy Raffles Hotel original that made the sling world-famous.
Typical way it's made: 1 oz gin, 0.5 oz Cherry Heering, 0.25 oz Cointreau, 0.25 oz Bénédictine, 4 oz pineapple juice, 0.5 oz lime juice, 0.25 oz grenadine, 1 dash Angostura bitters
Ngiam Tong Boon, a bartender at the Long Bar of Singapore's Raffles Hotel, assembled it around 1915: gin lengthened with cherry liqueur, pineapple, lime, and spice into something rosy and deceptively polite. By legend the disguise was deliberate, letting women drink gin in public under cover of fruit juice.

Raffles stopped serving it for a stretch after the 1930s and the original recipe went missing; today's house version was reconstructed partly from a note a visitor jotted down in 1936.
