Bordeaux's citrus-kissed aperitif wine, lightly bitter and forever tied to James Bond.
Podensac, France, 1872
Brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet founded their house in Podensac in 1872; the quinine-laced Kina Lillet followed in 1887.
Bordeaux wines (about 85% of the blend) meet citrus liqueurs and a touch of quinine, then rest; the 1986 reformulation softened the bitter edge into today's Blanc.
Candied orange, honey, and white flowers with a faint tonic bitterness; serve it very cold.

James Bond's Vesper in Casino Royale (1953) demands 'half a measure of Kina Lillet'. The Kina is discontinued, so modern Vespers make do with Lillet Blanc.
