The Negroni template, equal parts bitter, botanical, and sweet, survives losing its alcohol better than most drinks survive losing anything. Florence supplied the original around 1919, when Count Camillo Negroni, as the story goes, asked for his Americano stiffened with gin. The modern NA aperitif shelf exists in large part to walk that swap back.
