Le Marche's saffron amaro: sweet, soft, and unmistakably orange and spice.
Ascoli Piceno, Marche, Italy
Silvio Meletti, born to distillers, set up in Ascoli Piceno in the 1870s; the family has kept both the recipe and the ribbed Art Nouveau bottle since.
Saffron from the Sibillini mountains, bitter orange peel, gentian, cardamom, and cloves infuse and blend into a sweet, low-bitterness amaro. The Apennine foothills supply alpine and coastal botanicals alike.
Saffron and caramel over candied orange, with anise and clove behind. Among the sweetest amari on the shelf, barely bitter at all.
Did you know
Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world by weight, which makes it an unusual thing to build an entire amaro around.
Also known as: meletti, meletti amaro
