Vodka and cranberry juice. Sometimes called a Cape Codder. Approachable, tart, perennial.
Typical way it's made: 1.5 oz vodka, 4 oz cranberry juice, lime wedge
Ocean Spray invented it as marketing: a 1945 push to sell cranberry juice under the name Red Devil. The name changed with the times (Cape Codder by the 1960s, for the cranberry coast that grew the fruit) while the drink itself never needed improving. Vodka disappears, cranberry's tartness reads as almost grown-up, and ice does the rest.
