The Moscow Mule was a 1941 inventory problem solved at Hollywood's Cock 'n' Bull: Smirnoff's John Martin had vodka America ignored, owner Jack Morgan had a cellar of unsold ginger beer, and a copper mug made the pairing famous. Ginger beer carried the drink all along, so the Virgin Mule loses less than the math suggests.
