Vodka, Kahlúa, Bailey's, sometimes ice cream. A 1970s Cayman Islands invention engineered for the cruise crowd.
Typical way it's made: 1.5 oz vodka, 1.5 oz coffee liqueur, 1.5 oz Irish cream, 1 oz heavy cream, blended or over ice
The Wreck Bar at Rum Point, Grand Cayman, claims it from the 1970s, when (the house story goes) a guest asked for a White Russian and got Irish cream where the cream should be. Cruise ships did the distribution, blenders did the rest, and the Mudslide became the drink that sneaks a milkshake into the bar.
Did you know
Irish cream is younger than it looks: Baileys, the first on the market, launched in 1974, and its creators later said the initial recipe came together in about 45 minutes.
