Vodka, lemon, simple, sugared rim. Dessert in a martini glass, in the best possible way.
Typical way it's made: 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz triple sec, 0.75 oz lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, sugared rim
Norman Jay Hobday put the Lemon Drop on the menu at Henry Africa's, his San Francisco bar, in the 1970s, naming it for the candy and designing it to hide a serious measure of vodka behind sugar and fresh lemon. The stemmed glass, sugared rim, and the word martini attached themselves over the decades that followed.
