Cachaça, lime, sugar. Brazil's national cocktail. Lime is muddled in the glass, hull and all.
Typical way it's made: 2 oz cachaça, half a lime cut into wedges and muddled, 2 tsp sugar
Brazil's national drink, built in the glass from cachaça, cut lime, and sugar. The most-told origin story starts around 1918 in São Paulo state, where a folk remedy for Spanish flu mixed cachaça with lime, garlic, and honey; drop the garlic and honey, add sugar and ice, and you have the drink. Historians shrug; Brazilians keep muddling.

The name is a diminutive of caipira, Brazilian Portuguese for a person from the countryside; the drink's name translates, more or less, to 'little hillbilly.'
