The daiquiri gone dry and grapefruit-bright, remade to Hemingway's no-sugar, double-rum order.
Typical way it's made: 2 oz white rum, 0.75 oz lime juice, 0.5 oz grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz maraschino liqueur
At Havana's El Floridita, Ernest Hemingway tasted the house daiquiri and asked for it drier: no sugar, double the rum. The bar, under its famed cantinero Constantino Ribalaigua, ran with the order, and grapefruit and maraschino rounded it into the Hemingway Special. The sugarless request is usually chalked up to his diabetes.

The double-rum, no-sugar version answered to Papa Doble, and Hemingway's consumption was house legend; accounts have him running through double digits in a single sitting.
