Rum, Coca-Cola, and fresh lime, named for the toast of Cuban independence. The lime juice is what separates it from a plain rum and Coke.
Typical way it's made: 2 oz white rum, 0.5 oz lime juice, cola to top, lime wedge
Havana, in the first years after Cuban independence: American soldiers and their Coca-Cola met Cuban rum, and someone raised the era's toast, 'Por Cuba libre.' The dating stays fuzzy because Coke only reached the island around 1900, after the fighting ended, which has never stopped anyone from telling the battlefield version anyway.
