A gin sour shaken hard and topped with soda, made to be drunk fast while the sparkle holds.
Typical way it's made: 2 oz gin, 1 oz lemon juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup, egg white optional, club soda to top
The fizz is a sour finished with soda and served snappy, no ice in the glass, meant to be drunk while it still prickles. America adopted it hard between 1900 and the 1940s, and nowhere harder than New Orleans. Add the optional egg white and it answers to Silver Fizz.

In its New Orleans heyday the gin fizz was popular enough that bars kept whole teams of bartenders shaking to keep up with orders.
