Benevento's saffron-gold 'witch': some 70 herbs, minty and warm, glowing yellow.
Benevento, Italy, 1860
Merchant Giuseppe Alberti created it in Benevento in 1860 and named it for the witches said to gather at a walnut tree outside the city.
Around 70 botanicals, Ceylon cinnamon and Apennine juniper among them, distilled and colored gold with saffron.
Wild mint and fennel over conifer and warm spice; sweet at the front, herbal and long at the back.
