Dark cherries steeped sweet, the soft middle ground between maraschino and syrup.

Cherry liqueurs are old across Denmark, Germany and Britain; Heering, first made in Copenhagen in the early 1800s, became the reference bottle and the one a Singapore Sling expects.
Whole cherries macerate in spirit, frequently with their pits, and the result is sweetened. Pits contribute the almond note that separates a cherry liqueur from plain cherry syrup.
Dark stewed cherry and almond, moderately sweet, with a stone-fruit tartness that keeps it from cloying.
Did you know
It is a different animal from maraschino, which is distilled from marasca cherries and comes out clear and dry rather than red and sweet.
