Trentino's wine-based red aperitivo: lighter than a spirit bitter, built for the spritz.
Trentino, Italy, 1906
Antica Erboristeria Cappelletti opened outside Trento in 1906 as a herbalist's house; its Vino Aperitivo Americano Rosso is the bottle that carried the name abroad.
A base of Italian white wines takes an infusion of bitter herbs and roots, sweetened and colored red with traditional carmine instead of synthetic dye.
Bitter orange, cherry, and rhubarb over a light wine body. Drier and more herbal than the big spirit-based reds, with a clean finish.
Did you know
The base is wine rather than neutral spirit, which is why it sits at aperitif strength and why the carmine coloring keeps it off vegan lists.
Also known as: cappelletti
