Lime, agave, salt. The Margarita without tequila. Better in concept than in glass, unless the lime is fresh.
Typical way it's made: 1.5 oz lime juice, 1 oz orange juice, 0.75 oz agave syrup, salt rim optional
The margarita descends from the daisy, a 19th-century template of spirit, citrus, and orange liqueur, and margarita is simply Spanish for daisy. The tequila original's invention story has a dozen claimants and no verdict. The virgin build stays out of the argument: fresh lime, orange, and agave, with the salt rim doing the heavy lifting.

The Daisy first appears in print in Jerry Thomas' 1862 bartender's manual as the Brandy Daisy; swap in tequila and trade lemon for lime, and the margarita is most of the way built.
