Pomegranate in liqueur form: tart, deep red, and easy to mistake for grenadine.
United States, 2005
Launched by a Kentucky distiller in 2005, in the middle of the pomegranate health craze, as the first widely distributed pomegranate liqueur.
Pomegranate juice is blended with vodka and a little tequila, then sweetened. The juice carries both the color and the acidity.
Tart pomegranate and red berry over moderate sweetness, drier than the color suggests, with a faintly tannic finish.
Did you know
Grenadine began as a pomegranate syrup too, which is where the confusion starts. Grenadine carries no alcohol and a great deal more sugar.
Also known as: pama, pama liquor, pama pomegranate liqueur
