Greece's amber house spirit: aged grape distillate softened with muscat wine and botanicals.

Spyros Metaxas began blending it in 1888 near Athens, and it became the Greek spirit the rest of the world recognised, sold by a star count rather than a vintage.
Aged grape distillates are blended with aged muscat wines from Samos and Lemnos, then rounded with a botanical infusion including rose petals. That wine-and-botanical step is why it is not simply a brandy.
Raisin, honey and dried apricot with a floral lift and a soft, sweet finish. Fuller and rounder than cognac at the same age.

The stars on the label count years of ageing for the youngest component (five, seven, twelve), a system it adopted long before most spirits gave any age statement at all.
