Barbados' lime-clove-ginger cordial: low proof, high spice, tiki's secret handshake.
Barbados, 19th century
Barbadians were steeping lime, ginger, clove, and almond in rum at home well before John D. Taylor of Bridgetown bottled Velvet Falernum in 1890.
Rum is infused with lime peel, clove, ginger, and almond, then sweetened with cane sugar; zero-proof falernum syrups exist too, so read the label.
Lime zest first, then clove and ginger heat over almond cream; sweet, spiced, and lighter on its feet than it reads.

The etymology is a standing argument; one popular theory borrows from Falernian, the celebrated wine of ancient Rome, and nobody has settled it.
