Germany and the United States
German schnapps traditions gave the name, but the cinnamon style is largely an American bar creation of the late 20th century. Goldschläger, with its suspended gold leaf, made it a shot-culture fixture.
Cinnamon, usually as cassia oil, flavors a neutral or whiskey base and sugar rounds it out. The flakes in some bottles are real gold leaf, added purely for spectacle.
