Bormio, Valtellina, Italy, 1875
Francesco Peloni, a pharmacist in the alpine spa town of Bormio, formulated it in 1875; it has been part of the Campari Group since 2013 but is still made in Bormio.
A closely held set of alpine botanicals, gentian, wormwood, yarrow and juniper among them, macerate before the amaro rests roughly two years in Slavonian oak casks.
Pine and mint over bitter alpine root, with eucalyptus and a cooling menthol finish. It drinks like cold air.
