Vodka, fresh espresso, coffee liqueur: Dick Bradsell's 1983 answer to "give me something that'll wake me up and **** me up."
Typical way it's made: 2 oz vodka, 1 oz fresh espresso, 0.5 oz coffee liqueur, 0.25 oz simple syrup, three coffee beans to garnish
Dick Bradsell mixed the first one in 1983 at the Soho Brasserie in London, after a young model asked for something that would wake her up and then some. He shook vodka with fresh espresso and sugar and called it the Vodka Espresso. The martini name arrived in the 1990s at Match EC1, once anything served up in a V-shaped glass earned the suffix.
