A French gentian-quinquina: wine-based, bitter, and sold for decades as a tonic.

Created by Hippolyte Bonal, said to have been a monk at the Grande Chartreuse, and marketed for generations as an appetite tonic. Production lapsed and restarted, and the bottle returned to the US market in 2011.
A mistelle base of grape must and spirit is infused with gentian root and cinchona bark, then aged in oak.
Bitter gentian and quinine over dried fruit and cocoa, with a light, wine-weight body and a dry finish.
