Spanish settlers brought Seville oranges to Curaçao in 1527; the arid island turned them into the bitter, fragrant laraha, whose dried peel became the island's liqueur.
Dried laraha peel flavors a liqueur that is naturally colorless; the blue is added coloring, most often E133 brilliant blue, with no effect on flavor.
Candied orange peel with a bitter pith edge and clean sweetness; close your eyes and it is orange liqueur again.
