Typical way it's made: 1 oz lime juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup, shaken with plenty of ice
The daiquiri took its name from a beach near Santiago de Cuba and its fame from proportion: rum, lime, sugar, cold. American engineer Jennings Cox is popularly credited with the first, around 1898. Shaken hard without the spirit it becomes limeade with posture, which is why good bars will make one for anybody's designated driver.
