Scandinavian specialty coffee found this one the morning after a party: the earliest record is 2007 in Oslo, mixed by a barista working alongside the future founders of Koppi Roasters. Koppi put it on the menu in Helsingborg, Sweden as Kaffe & Tonic, and the pairing followed the barista circuit around the world.

Koppi reported that once Kaffe & Tonic went on the menu, it accounted for nearly all the iced coffee the roastery sold.
