Japan's neon-green muskmelon liqueur, launched under the lights of Studio 54.
Japan, 1964
Suntory sold it at home as Hermes Melon Liqueur from 1964, then rechristened it Midori, Japanese for green, for its American debut in 1978.
Yubari King and musk melons flavor the spirit, sweetened with cane sugar; the glow-in-the-dark green is added color.
Candied honeydew and ripe cantaloupe, unabashedly sweet; citrus and a hard shake sober it up.
