Mexican lager, lime, hot sauce, Worcestershire, salt, sometimes Clamato. A whole brunch in a chalice.
Typical way it's made: 12 oz Mexican lager, 1 oz lime juice, 2 dashes hot sauce, 2 dashes Worcestershire, Tajín rim
Mexico tells two origin stories. In one, sometime in the 1960s, Michel Ésper at San Luis Potosí's Club Deportivo Potosino kept ordering beer with lime, salt, ice, and a straw until members shortened 'Michel's lemonade' into michelada. In the other, the name simply compresses 'mi chela helada': my ice-cold beer. Either way it spread, and every region now seasons it differently.

Clamato, the tomato-clam juice that defines border-style micheladas, was invented in 1966 by Duffy-Mott employees chasing the flavor of Manhattan clam chowder; premixed beer-and-Clamato cheladas have been on American shelves since 2001.
